Restoration is one of the areas in photography that often go unnoticed, but is a need many families have for their old family photographs.
Restoration is a skill that is a combination of a few things
- Photographing the Images in a well lit studio
- Doing the artwork to “clean up” the image- repairing any cracks, stains or damage
- Printing a new copy of your restored photograph.
We recently had a client contact us for a restoration project. He had 2 photographs in which he wanted restored and copied.
The first was of him and his older sister. It was a beautiful sepia toned image, approximately 60 years old. It did not have too much damage to the original. You can see the tear marks at the top and bottom.
Below is the restored image that we printed a 16×20 Lustre Sprayed and Mounted print from.
Next is an image of the clients father. If my memory serves me correctly, this image is from the early 1900’s. There were a lot of tears and spots in this original. Also upon close inspection, the skin had a lot of white spots. After discussing the image with the client, we decided to leave the blue effects on the left side. It appears this image had some hand tinting effects done to it. There is blue within the clothing, and pink has been added to the cheeks. We weren’t sure what the blue was supposed to be, but I felt it to be a lighting effect.
This is the restored image, printed as an 11×14 on a Lustre Mounted Print. Extra retouching (adding background) was done in order to make this a square print. The oval printing is not available these days from professional labs.
If you have classic photographs that are heirlooms to your family please email us to inquire about this service we offer. With every restoration project, you will receive a digital copy and a printed copy for the restored image. Pricing is based upon the complexity of your project with the amount of retouching that needs to be done, and the print size your would like printed for your restored copy.
